Hello everyone
As you may or may not know I am in the third year of a Sport and Recreation degree at the Southern Institute of Technolgy in Invercargill and am a keen track cyclist.
I am undertaking a research project looking at warm up procedures and need a number of volunteer cyclists.
The study is based in Invercargill so you would have to be based here or willing to travel down but I thought I'd post the details just in case someone is keen.
Basically I need a group of 10 cyclists to participate in four testing sessions at the sport science laboratory at SIT.
The first session will happen on either Monday 20 July (2pm - 6pm) or Tuesday 21 July (4.30-8.30pm) and take around one hour.
The next three testing sessions will occur on Monday 27 July, Monday 3 August and Monday 10 August, between 2.00pm and 9.00pm, these sessions will take between 20 and 45 minutes.
All the volunteers need to do is turn up with their road bikes and ride as hard as they can on the four testing days. No prior knowledge of the testing is required as Ian and the Students at SIT will take care of the entire test procedures.
Volunteers need to be aged 16 to 35 years of age and be competitive male cyclists who competed at the 2009 National Track Cycling Championships.
All participants involved in this study will receive a Lactate Analysis test and an estimated VO2peak reading. This testing has an approximate value of $150 which the volunteers will receive for free. This information can then be used by the participant’s personal coach to identify and develop training intensities and zones for ideal preparation. The results of the group will also add to the knowledge surrounding the ideal warm up for the 4km pursuit.
A full information sheet is available if anyone is keen.
If you are interested in participating in this study please post here
Once I have enough volunteers I will organise a meeting time and date (Possibly Monday 6 or 13 July) to discuss the project, fully explain everything and get the volunteers and their parents (if needed) to sign consent forms.
Thanks in advance.
Ian Densie
